We love Lake Superior!

(Click photo to enlarge)

We have been to the north shore of Lake Superior dozens of times- the first time being our honeymoon almost nine years ago! We usually stay near Two Harbors and spend time at Gooseberry Falls and Splitrock lighthouse. However, the last time we went- last fall- we decided to stay on the canal in Duluth. We walked downtown and browsed all the little shops, and spent hours watching ships come and go from the canal. One day we drove to Enger Tower, and along Seven Bridges Road. It was the first time we had seen these landmarks, and we couldn't believe we had been up there so many times and never gone on this drive! It will for sure be something we do more often when we take our weekend vacations up there. In fact, we plan on going up within the next couple weeks! :)

When I was a kid, we took many family vacations up to the north shore. Often we would camp, or stay at a resort right on the lake. Davin grew up in Upper Michigan, and spent much of his summertimes on Lake Superior also. We both have memories of swimming, playing games in the sand, and many, many nighttime campfires. So, it is a a sure thing that we will take our children to both the north shore, and the south shore in Michigan, where much of Davin's family still lives.

A new cousin...

This little niece is especially excited for us to adopt a baby. In this picture she is doing my hair while we talk all about her getting a new cousin. She will be one of the very first to know when our baby is here! :)

This is a letter she wrote to us:

All of our our nieces and nephews are very excited to have a new cousin! :)

Our Dear Birth Parent letter

Hello!

We are excited to be on this journey towards starting a family through the miracle of adoption! Thank you for allowing us to introduce ourselves. We hope this letter gives you a picture of what your baby's life would be like as part of our family.

About Us

It seems like just yesterday that we were introduced by a mutual friend, yet have been married for eight years. We both love to travel (from quick weekends on the North Shore to a Jamaican get-a-way), play games (Laura always wins at speed Scrabble), spend time outdoors (biking, grilling and working in the yard) and visit with family and friends. Laura's other interests include music and photography, while Davin enjoys running and playing hockey.

We are happy and thankful for the life we share, but we feel a void having not been blessed with children. We are grateful that adoption may provide us the chance to share our love with a child. In our family, children will be raised with unconditional love in a Christian home with priorities centered on faith, family and friends.

Davin, told by Laura

Davin is an amazing husband and friend. Loving and caring, he will do anything to help others. He is a math fanatic, which serves him well in his career as an actuary. What I love most about Davin is that kids adore him as much as he adores them! He often volunteers to baby-sit our nieces and nephews and spends hours playing with them. When we are with friends or family, he often sneaks away to play hide-and-seek or build forts with the kids! I have no doubt he will be an incredible dad!

Laura, told by Davin

I love how Laura's smile makes everything else insignificant! I appreciate that we are not exactly alike; her spontaneity offsets my practicality, and her emotion balances my reason. Always thoughtful, she is quick to send a card/gift/call in celebration, consolation or "just because." She has a magic touch with children- it's common that she will slip away from the commotion of a family gathering to rock a niece or nephew to sleep. Laura is passionate about her career in massage therapy but to be a stay-at-home mom is her greatest dream!

Family

We both feel fortunate to be part of large, close-knit, loving families (Laura has ten siblings and Davin has nine!). While most of Davin's family is in Upper Michigan, we enjoy trips to visit them whenever we can. Many of Laura's siblings and her parents live nearby.

Family gatherings are an important part of our life. We love picnics at Davin's grandparents' camp on Lake Superior (think barbeque, sauna-n-swim and a bonfire with s'mores). A family get-together at Laura's parents' goes something like this: food (of course), outdoor games (wiffle ball, football, or made-up games), and sharing family memories and laughs. In the winter, there is a family ice rink full of skaters and many action-packed hockey games.

Our families are very excited for us to adopt a baby. In addition to our parents and siblings, our many nieces and nephews are excited to have another cousin! They are all waiting with us to share their love with our baby.

Home and Community

We live in a small community in central Minnesota. Our comfortable home has a large yard and is located in a newer neighborhood with many young families. Parks and bike paths are nearby. On a typical summer day, families are walking and biking along the streets and sidewalks. Parents stop to visit and children play together.

Thank you!Thank you for taking a glimpse into our life. Your baby would be loved and cherished in our home, and would always know of your love. We would be excited to talk with you to discuss your own hopes for your baby.
